Home Press Releases Birdwatch brings mini-mascot to Runcorn care home
A CANARY kept Runcorn care home residents company while participating in the world’s biggest wildlife survey.
The bird was loaned to Simonsfield Care Home by pet shop Runcorn Pets and Angling while they took part in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch.
The residents built and painted nesting boxes to be fitted to the trees in the care home garden to attract birds for the survey.
The birdwatch event involves over 500,000 participants around the UK each year, with the findings helping to paint a picture of avian population changes.
Sharon Maguire, the activities coordinator at Simonsfield Care Home Runcorn, on Boston Avenue, approached the pet shop about supporting their participation.
She said: “All the residents loved the canary and wanted to keep him.
“He was our little mascot for the day, while we took part in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, making nesting boxes and watching the garden for flying visitors.”
