Home Press Releases Care home celebrates with seaside summer party
A BIG summer bash saw elderly Derbyshire residents transported to the seaside – all without leaving their care home.
Residents and staff at Holmewood Care Home, on Barnfield Close, Chesterfield, were treated to the full seaside experience as part of their annual summer party.
An artificial beach was created with sand and water, a sweet grabber and 2p machine were among the arcade games, and the home’s kitchen team made fish and chips served in traditional newspaper wrapping.
Entertainment was provided by local singing duo Him and Her, who performed “We’re All Going On a Summer Holiday”, among other summertime classics.
The home’s staff also dressed the part, donning costumes from classic BBC TV show Hi-de-Hi! as well as dressing as pirates and hula girls.
Resident Dorothy Wass said: “It was such an enjoyable day and I really enjoyed the fish and chips. They were beautiful. Thank you to all who helped to make the day as enjoyable as ever.”
Gemma Gill, activities coordinator at Holmewood Care Home, was one of the organisers of the summer party. She said: “The day was amazing and just seeing the residents being so happy and enjoying themselves made my job so worthwhile.
“Staff did a brilliant job with the dressing up and I would like to thank them for the support. A jam packed fun day was had by all.”
