Home Press Releases Care home volunteer Ruth rewarded by residents and staff
A TEESSIDE care home volunteer has been rewarded by residents and staff during National Volunteer Week.
Ruth Atkinson has been helping at The Beeches Care Home, in Stockton-on-Tees, since her mother became a resident, in February 2016.
Despite Ruth’s mother, Ellen Atkinson, passing away earlier this year, she continues to volunteer her time and services.
She lends support at events throughout the year and has raised funds for outings and activities – once undergoing a sponsored head shave.
Staff and residents at The Beeches Care Home, on Green Lane, presented Ruth with a bouquet of flowers on National Volunteer Week to show their appreciation.
Helen Wood, home manager at The Beeches Care Home, on Green Lane, said: “Ruth is an asset to the home and whenever she visits she will carry out various activities.
“One of the residents’ favourites is bingo and, when they spot Ruth is in, they will constantly ask her if she is doing bingo.
“She will also run errands for residents if they would like anything purchasing from the shop – she even does this for the staff in the home.
“We are always grateful to Ruth but National Volunteer Week was a good opportunity to shower her with gratitude.”
