Home Press Releases Care home’s Pride Inside party to support LGBT community
A PRIDE Inside party was held at a Blyth care home as residents and staff showed their support for the LGBT community.
Pride Month, taking place throughout June, saw those living and working at The Oaks Care Home, on Durban Street, enjoying a day of awareness raising events and activities.
Rainbow arts and crafts was followed by a party with a buffet of rainbow coloured sweets and cakes.
Residents spent the morning putting together Pride flags and decorating the home before a viewing of A Star is Born, with Barbara Streisand.
After lunch the home’s nominated DJ for the day, activities coordinator Angela Hedley, played residents’ choice of 80s classics.
They also enjoyed a spread of rainbow sweets such as smarties, skittles, jelly babies, drops and more, alongside a rainbow cake.
Staff and residents also dressed in rainbow wigs, glasses and waved flags to mark the occasion.
Resident Nancy Forsyth said: “The bright ribbons and flags were beautiful.”
Fellow resident Ann Sturrock said: “I love the 80s music”. And resident Dennis Allen added: “I enjoyed getting up and having a dance.”
Joanne Young, home manager at The Oaks Care Home, said: “Pride Month is all about raising awareness of issues faced by the LGBT community, encouraging inclusivity, and showing our support.
“This year, Pride Inside parties have been happening all over the country, due to outdoor events being cancelled, and we wanted to join in the fun with our own.
“The staff did a fantastic job getting everyone into the spirit of the month and the residents thoroughly enjoyed the day.”
