Home Press Releases Dogs and cats visit residents on National Love Your Pet Day
FOUR-LEGGED visitors met care home residents in Northumberland as part of National Love Your Pet Day.
Staff and families of residents at The Oaks Care Home, in Blyth, brought their dogs and cats into the home for the day.
Among them were Jack Russell Terriers Tiny and Diego and cat Boots, all belonging to carer Linda Palmer.
Carer Paula Davison brought her Husky Casper to work and domestic worker Christine Roddam was joined by Sammy the Cockapoo.
Resident Brian Keegan’s wife Sheila brought their cat Jasper and carer Sarah Ferrow was accompanied to work by Belgian Shepherd Tara.
Resident Pearl Beaman, who is bedbound, said: “They are lovely. They have made my day the best ever.”
Fellow resident Elsie Patterson said: “I used to have small terriers, although I can’t remember if they were Jack Russells, but it certainly has brought back so many good memories of walking them and cuddling them. Thank you so much for bringing them in for us to see.”
Angela Hedley, activities coordinator at The Oaks Care Home, said: “The animals were brought in at different times as to not overload the residents.
“All the resident appeared to benefit so much from the animals visiting, especially those in their rooms who don’t get many visitors.”
Ann Mielnik, home manager, added: “Pet therapy is an excellent way to enhance lives by providing companionship, friendship and helps to combat loneliness.”
