Home Press Releases Easter miracle as ducklings hatch at care home
DUCKLINGS have hatched at a Northumberland care home just in time for Easter.
The Oaks Care Home, in Blyth, had been incubating the baby birds for several days before they began to break free of their shells.
Four new arrivals greeted the elderly residents with chirps before enjoying a dip in a specially provided paddling pool.
The residents were delighted to see the ducklings ahead of the Easter weekend – before they are homed at a local farm.
Ann Wallace said: “It was amazing to see them. I can’t wait until we hold them.”
Pat Whyatt commented: “Isn’t nature beautiful.”
Else Scattergood said: “In all my years, I have not seen anything like it. How lovely.”
Nancy Forsyth added: “I saw the first one hatching this morning. I’ve decided his name is Daffy.”
Professional hatching provider Incredible Eggs gave the care home the opportunity to incubate the ducklings and see them hatch.
The company delivers hatching experiences to nurseries, schools and care homes throughout the UK, as well as the necessary equipment and support.
As part of their Easter celebrations, residents also made bonnets, before having their photos taken with the ducklings ahead of their departure.
Gill Cottrell, senior care assistant at The Oaks Care Home, on Durban Street, said: “It’s been lovely seeing the reactions of all the residents. Everyone has loved the experience. We have all enjoyed it a lot.”
Ann Mielnik, home manager, added: “The whole experience has been so good for everyone. Both the residents and the staff.
“We decided we couldn’t keep the ducklings, so they are being homed on farms when Incredible Eggs take them.
“Everyone now wants a rabbit for the home, which we’re looking in to.”
