Home Press Releases Elderly make pastries and cakes for National Baking Week
CUPCAKES and sausage rolls were on the menu at a Stockton on Tees care home in celebration of National Baking Week.
Elderly residents and staff at Mandale House Care Home got out the mixing bowls and rolling pins to make dough and cake mix to mark the event.
Baked goods of all kinds were created, from savoury pastries to sweet treats, alongside smoothies and lots of tea and coffee.
Resident Irene McBride, who is registered blind, had lots of fun making sausage rolls with only minor assistance.
She said: “It’s been a long time since I baked anything. It was lots of fun and it was lovely that we could have the sausage rolls we made at tea time.”
Sarah Robinson, activities coordinator at Mandale House Care Home, on Acklam Road, Thornaby, said: “We all got involved in every step of the way, from rolling out the pastry to filling it with the right amount of sausage.
“We all agreed that being able to eat the food we made was the best bit.”
