Home Press Releases Primary school pupils set to transform care home garden
RAWMARSH Ashwood Primary School pupils are set to transform a care home garden as part of a young leadership project.
The youngsters have been tasked with making improvements within their community.
They chose to brighten the garden at Broadacres Care Home, on Naylor Street, which cares for elderly people and those living with dementia.
The pupils are raising money to purchase bunting, paint, plant pots and flowers to help give the garden a makeover.
They recently raised £180 with a bake sale, attended by Rotherham Mayor Cllr Eve Keenan, residents and carers from the care home, friends and family.
The school is also holding a non-uniform day to help generate funds for the project.
Miss Benton, year 5 teacher at Rawmarsh Ashwood Primary School, on Ashwood Road, said: “Hopefully we will begin the decorations when we have some funds to buy things.
“We will be decorating pots in school then towards the end of June to beginning of July we’ll be able to spend a morning at the care home bringing things over, planting and arranging.
“We just want to make it colourful and multi-sensory. What we do will depend on the money we raise.”
Helen Walker, home manager at Broadacres Care Home, said: “It’s a wonderful project and we’re really grateful to the school and pupils for choosing Broadacres Care Home.
“The bake sale was a huge success and our thanks go to Mayor Cllr Eve Keenan for attending and helping us to raise so much already.
“We’re appealing for further donations of supplies and funds to aid the pupils with their project, so if anyone is interested in lending their support please get in touch.”
