Home Press Releases Pupils judge care home bonnet decorating competition
EASTER bonnets adorned the bonces of Barnsley care home residents ahead of the national holiday.
Flowers, eggs, buttons, rabbits, chicks and feathers were used in a bonnet decorating workshop at Deangate Care Home, on Mapplewell Barnsley.
The residents also received a special visit from Year 8 pupils from Darton Primary School before their half-term holiday.
The children were asked to select their favourite bonnet, with winner Mari Batty receiving an Easter egg as her prize.
They also read their favourite stories to the residents as part of their visit, after a cancelled trip during world book day due to the recent snowy weather.
Julia Chambers, home manager at Deangate Care Home, on Towngate, said: “Everyone loves Easter, especially our residents, so we wanted to do something different to celebrate.
“The bonnet decorating activity was enjoyed by all, including the visiting pupils, who got to judge their favourites and announce a winner.
“We’re delighted the pupils from Darton Primary could come and see us again, after poor weather stopped their last visit. It was an extra-special surprise for our residents ahead of the Easter holiday.”
