Home Press Releases Sandiacre care home’s guinea pigs a hit with residents
TWO furry, four-legged residents have been admitted to a Sandiacre care home Nottingham.
Longmoor Lodge Care Home bought a pair guinea pigs to give residents responsibility and keep them company.
Frankie and Bennie have taken up residence in a hutch in the previously underused bottom lounge – which has since become a hive of activity.
Resident Irene Lockwood previously avoided the lounge and now checks on the guinea pigs daily.
Betty Bonsall and Margery Marriot, both living with dementia at the home, have expressed their happiness looking after the pets.
Samantha Ely, home manager at Longmoor Lodge Care Home, on Longmoor Lane, said: “The residents love taking care of the newly adopted guinea pigs.
“They have been cleaning them out, feeding them and giving them lots of cuddles.
“They live in the bottom lounge, where one resident never cared to venture, and now she visits daily just to check on them.”
