Home Press Releases Seaside theme for Christmas tree dressing festival
SEAGULLS, crabs and starfish were among the decorations created by care home residents for a Christmas tress dressing festival.
Hazelgrove Court Care Home was one of several community groups invited to take part in the festival, at Emmanuel Church, in Saltburn-by-the-Sea.
Each team had to choose a theme, with the home’s residents going with the seaside. They handmade decorations including ice creams, sticks of rock, flip flops, beach huts and bunting with anchors to adorn their tree.
Resident Joyce Baxtrum travelled to the church to place the decorations. She said: “I’ve never done anything like this before.
“I absolutely loved decorating the tree. It was an afternoon’s work well spent. I think ours is the best.”
Sharon Lewis, activities coordinator at Hazelgrove Court Care Home, on Randolph Street, said: “I enjoyed the whole planning process and making the decorations with the residents.
“Their imagination is amazing and we had a wonderful time making the things that went on the tree.”
Others who took part in the festival and decorated trees at the church included a local Scout group, who chose badges and knitted figures for their theme.
Shop Knitting Bee knitted or crocheted all their ornaments, a Guides group used badges and the Saltburn in Bloom organisation covered their tree in flowers.
The decorated Christmas trees can be viewed at Emmanuel Church throughout December thanks to the support of the Saltburn WI.
