Home Press Releases Suites donated to care homes to tackle loneliness
A FURNITURE company is tackling loneliness among the elderly by donating suites to care homes.
Desser & Co, based in Manchester, has given more than £8,000 worth of rattan suites to Hill Care Group homes across the north of England.
The initiative aims to tackle loneliness “one bum on a seat at a time” by “creating the perfect spot for you to have a chin wag, catch up on the latest gossip and make a new friend or two”, according to Desser.
David Stewart, sales manager at Desser, said: “We wanted to give something back to the community that has supported us during our 100 years.
“Having all had family that have relied on care homes and with an ageing population, the importance of care homes and the issue of loneliness is as important as ever and something we wanted to support.”
Eight Hill Care Group homes have received rattan suites from Desser – including a sofa and two chairs for each home. They include:
David added: “Hill Care is a very well-respected company with care homes across the UK.
“We thought they would be the perfect partnership who could not only receive the donation but push the idea of tackling loneliness.
“Their passion towards providing the correct care and environment for the elderly community in need is exactly the type of company we at Desser support.”
Wendy Waddicor, managing director for the Hill Care Group, said: “We are so grateful to Desser for choosing Hill Care for their “Take a Seat” initiative.
“Each of our homes has now received their rattan suites and residents and visitors are loving them. They are incredibly comfortable and manufactured to the highest quality. They fit in perfectly with the rest of the furniture.
“Loneliness is a major issue among the elderly and something we are fully committed to tackling. We always open our doors to the local community when we run events and have an extensive network of community partnerships.”
