Home Press Releases Wool needed to finish care home’s pom pom Christmas tree
A WOOL appeal has been issued by elderly care home residents after exhausting their supply making a pom pom Christmas tree.
The residents of The Oaks Care Home, in Blyth, Northumberland, have been knitting the woolen festive centerpiece for several weeks.
The tree is constructed from dozens of knitted pom poms, which is safer for residents with dementia than a traditional tree.
The home has since run out of wool to complete the creation and is appealing for donations of left over wool of any colour.
Ann Mielnik, home manager at The Oaks Care Home, on Durban Street, said: “Those with dementia are not always fully aware of their surroundings and how they can hurt themselves.
“The pom pom Christmas tree is a soft alternative to a traditional tree, making it much safer for our residents.
“While making the tree we ran out of wool and now we’re asking if anyone has any leftover wool sitting around to please drop it into the care home.
“The wool can be any colour and any length. The brighter our Christmas tree the better, so if you’re able to help we’d be hugely grateful.”
