CHINESE New Year was celebrated at two Chesterfield care homes by elderly residents, staff and visitors.
They joined more than a billion Chinese worldwide marking the annual Spring Festival.
Staff at Holmewood and Barnfield care homes dressed in traditional East Asian clothing and cooked up a feast of Chinese food for residents.
On the menu included chicken chow mein, vegetable stir fry, spring rolls, rice, prawn crackers and fortune cookies.
The residents also took part in a Chinese lantern making workshop, with their creations put on display while they enjoyed their meal.
Alison Riley, home manager at Barnfield Care Home in Chesterfield, said: “Chinese New Year has become an international celebration, not just marked in China but around the world.
“We wanted to take part this year and treat our residents to a day of China related activities followed by a delicious meal of Chinese food.”
Kathleen Richardson, home manager at Holmewood Care Home, added: “Chinese New Year was a great opportunity to give our residents a real taste of the Orient.
“Staff at both homes got into the spirit of the day and dressed in traditional clothing. They all looked amazing and everyone had a wonderful day.”
