Home Press Releases Mickey Mouse party at Runcorn care home
MICKEY Mouse made an appearance at a Runcorn care home party to celebrate the Disney mascot’s 91st birthday.
Residents at Simonsfield Care Home, on Boston Avenue, greeted the famous cartoon character with a chocolate cake to mark the occasion.
Many of those living at the home remember Mickey Mouse’s early appearances on their cinema and television screens.
Betty Allen, 93, was born just two years before Mickey’s first appearance, in the animated short film Steamboat Willie from 1928.
She said: “I remember Mickey when he was in black and white.”
Fellow resident Joan Cox, 92, added: “I was delighted to see Mickey for the party. I remember watching him my entire life.”
Debbie Smith, home manager at Simonsfield Care Home, said: “As one of the oldest and most well-known cartoon characters, Mickey Mouse has been prominent throughout the lives of all of our residents.
“His birthday was a great opportunity to throw a party and everyone at the home had a great time and enjoyed a slice of birthday cake.”
