Home Press Releases Care home’s dementia friendly singalong to raise awareness
A DEMENTIA friendly singer entertained Thornaby care home residents as part of an event to raise awareness of the condition.
Mandale House Care Home marked Dementia Awareness Week with a singalong to the residents’ favourite classics.
Dementia Friends’ Trish McLean performed It’s a Long Way to Tipperary, Show Me The Way To Go Home, If I Was The Only Girl In The World and more.
Joining in provides therapeutic effects for the residents, who enjoy a trip down memory lane.
James Hazelett said: “We were spoilt having Trish back in the home again. We all thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.”
Irene Fleming added: “It reminds me of going to dances when I was younger.”
Sarah Robinson, activities coordinator at Mandale House Care Home, on Acklam Road, said: “Trish did another brilliant performance.
“Our residents respond so well to the music therapy, sharing their stories and memories of when they first heard the songs or dances they attended in the past.
“Dementia Awareness Week is so important as it reminds all of us to stop and spend time with our elderly relatives, friends and residents.
“Giving them an experience that enriches their day is so rewarding not only for the residents but for all of us who put smiles on their faces as well.”
