Home Press Releases Elderly receive gift bags from generous Huddersfield shoppers
DOZENS of Christmas gifts were delivered to elderly Huddersfield care home residents thanks to the town’s generous shoppers.
Residents at Thornhill Care Home, in Edgerton, received gift bags containing a wide variety of goodies following a campaign by the UK’s leading homewares retailer, Dunelm.
Dunelm’s Delivering Joy campaign saw over a thousand giftbags dropped off at the retailer’s Huddersfield branch by customers in the run-up to Christmas.
These were distributed to a range of charities, schools, hospitals and care homes, including Thornhill
The care home’s activities coordinator, Ilona Ruttle, approached the branch’s sales team leader, Sarina Bi, about participating in the campaign.
Ilona received gift tags, which she filled out with the care home initials, adding gender and age for the residents and a comment on what they might like, such as chocolates and toiletries. She then hung the tags on the store’s Christmas tree for shoppers to pick up and attach to their gift donations, before they were delivered to elderly residents.
Ilona said: “When I returned, the wonderful customers of Dunelm had brought back loads of gift bags with the gift tags attached. I was overwhelmed by the kindness shown.”
Renee Wyatt, 88, was one of the residents who received a gift bag. She said: “I can’t believe that some people have been so kind and thought of us. It’s wonderful.”
When fellow resident Christine Ormston, 78, received her gift bag, she said: “Is this really for me? I can’t believe it.”
Sarina said: “A big thank you to all our customers for making this happen. The generosity has been overwhelming. Without our customers, the Delivering Joy campaign would not be possible.
“In total, 1,192 giftbags had been returned, which have been handed out to 15 local charities, schools, care homes and hospitals.”
