Home Press Releases Exotic creatures visit Bakewell care home residents
A SKUNK, tarantula and snake were among recent visitors to Bakewell’s Burton Closes Hall Care Home.
The exotic animals were taken to the home by Mobile Mini Zoo, a Tibshelf-based company that runs animal therapy sessions and birthday party events.
The home’s elderly residents enjoyed handling the creatures, including Poppy the skunk, Charlotte the tarantula, Brian the bearded dragon and Turbo the tortoise.
Hazel Jones, home manager at Burton Closes Hall Care Home, said: “We regularly have animals such as dogs visit the home as part of animal therapy sessions.
“The Mobile Mini Zoo brought something much more exotic along, with all sorts of snakes, spiders and reptiles.
“Our residents absolutely loved it. We couldn’t believe how intrigued, brave and eager they were to handle the creatures, especially the tarantula and snake.
“Animal therapy sessions have proven to benefit the elderly, helping to reduce feelings of loneliness, depression and anxiety, and this session really proved it.
“Everyone had huge smiles on their faces during and after the visit and are still talking about it. We hope to invite Mobile Mini Zoo back in future.”
