Home Press Releases Newcastle care home celebrates Dementia Carers Day
DEMENTIA Carers Day was celebrated by care home residents and their families in the North East.
The national day of appreciation and support for dementia carers was marked at Waverley Lodge Care Home in Lemington, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.
Staff at the home, on Bewick Crescent, were treated to afternoon tea by the residents, who also spoke about the care they receive.
Maria Lunn, 77, moved the staff to tears when she expressed her thanks for the care she and husband Tommy, who resides at the home, have received.
Tommy, 90, said: “I’ve travelled all over the world in my time. I was in another care home before I came to Waverley Lodge. But since I moved here, I’ve never felt as loved as I do now.”
Julie Booth, home manager, said: “We’re one big family here at Waverley Lodge and we love caring for our residents.
“It’s great to be able to show our appreciation for all the hard work the care staff and the rest of the team do.”
National Dementia Carers Day has been celebrated for three years and falls within September’s Alzheimer’s Awareness Month.
It aims to highlight the huge number of informal and family carers who provide innovative and compassionate support for relatives with dementia.
